Problem

The Tallowed Truth sells small-batch tallow skincare — balms, whips, and butters that customers tend to buy one jar at a time. The store wanted a real incentive to build bigger orders: mix-and-match bundle pricing across the whole catalogue, with discounts that deepen as the bundle grows. Shopify has no native way to do that — bundle apps typically force rigid pre-built kits, hijack the product page, or bounce shoppers to a separate flow that ignores what’s already in their cart.

Solution

A custom Bundle & Save collection template built with Liquid and JavaScript. Shoppers mix and match any products into a bundle, and a live panel tracks their progress through the discount tiers — 20%, 25%, 30% off — showing exactly how far they are from the next one (“You’re 1 item away from saving 30% off!”).

The pricing runs on line item properties read by a SupaEasy discount function: each bundle line is tagged as it’s added, and the discount applies automatically at checkout — no duplicate bundle products, no draft-order hacks. The builder is also cart-aware: products added anywhere else on the store are recognized on arrival and pulled into the bundle if they qualify, so a shopper who started in the regular catalogue gets credit toward their discount instead of a confusing reset.

Two more details round it out. Tapping a product opens an info popup — description, quantity, Add to Bundle — so nobody has to leave the page to decide. And the discount tiers themselves are theme customizer settings on the collection template, so the merchant can re-tune percentages and thresholds for a promo without touching code.

Result

Live since June 2026 at thetallowedtruth.com/collections/bundle-and-save. One page now does what would otherwise take a bundle app, a discount app, and a custom cart: guided mix-and-match buying, automatic tiered pricing, and a builder that meets shoppers wherever they started filling their cart. Performance numbers (average order value, bundle attach rate) are still being gathered; this entry will be updated once that data is in.
