Build-your-own pint box builder — Four All Ice Cream

Problem

Four All sells ice cream online, and with ice cream the hard part is shipping. Pints have to travel frozen, and a box only ships economically when it is filled to the right capacity. Left to a standard store flow, customers would under-fill a box — paying for cold-chain shipping that carried only a pint or two — or over-fill one, forcing an awkward, more expensive second box. With a frozen, perishable product that quantity-per-box isn’t a nicety; it’s the line between an order that arrives well and one that melts the margins. Shopify’s default product and variant flows had no way to enforce a sensible minimum or steer customers toward an optimal, single-box quantity.

Solution

A custom “Fill Your Box” builder embedded directly in the Flavours collection template, built with Liquid and JavaScript — no third-party bundle app. Customers add pints into a visual box of eight spots, with a live Bundle Total and a progress indicator (“Fill 4 more spots”). The builder enforces a minimum fill of four spots before checkout and frames each additional pint as savings (“the more you add, the more you save”), guiding orders toward a quantity that fits one shipping box. When a box is full, customers can close it and start another, so larger orders break cleanly into shippable units instead of one over-stuffed box.

Result

Live since March 2026 on the Flavours collection at fourall.ca. The builder replaces ambiguous, manual ordering with a guided flow that keeps every order inside a shippable, frozen-friendly box size — enforcing the minimum at the source and turning “buy more” into a savings story rather than a shipping problem. Hard performance numbers (average order value, shipping cost per order, support volume) are still being gathered; this entry will be updated once that data is in.
